Artist Statement

Pernille’s practice circulates between place and system, grounded in sensory experience and shaped by a neurodivergent, sensory-based approach. She gathers insight through interactions with internal and external space(s), resisting over-definition to keep room for movement and change. In recent years, her practice has slowed and elongated—making space for richer attention and a deeper research mode. Threads of enquiry have become streams that currently centre on what she calls ‘self-space’: translating experiences of shared space(s) in education and work environments from a neurodivergent perspective. She attends to the pressures that surround us, and to the peripheral, visceral feelings—and their effects—that surface day to day.

Working project to project across disciplines, she investigates peripheral gaze and movement—along with the glances, glimmers, and small shifts of life that often go unseen.

“Ask most people and they will say we have five senses. Ask a neuroscientist how many senses we have, and they will say we have 22 or more.” PF

Her works are held in both public and private collections in the UK, Denmark, Canada and Austria.
